Islands in the Sky
Frieze Seoul, with Galerie Quynh
03 September – 06 September, 2025
In Islands in the Sky, Lien Truong presents works that pay homage to her familial history of displacement through mythical storytelling.Truong’s paintings reimagine hòn non bộ, the Vietnamese art of miniature landscapes founded on thousands of years of worshipping stones and the belief that caves were homes to sacred spirits. Untethered from earth, her island “assemblages” reveal glimpses of hybrid, zodiac chimeras born from the regional lore of her ancestral lands, to the places her family has called home.

Spirit House
Curated by Aleesa Pitchamarn Alexander and Kathryn Cua
Henry Art Gallery, University of Washington
26 July, 2025 – 11 January, 2026
The Cantor Arts Center, Stanford University
04 September, 2024 – 19 January, 2025
Spirit House surveys how thirty-three contemporary artists of Asian descent are exploring modes of making that exceed rational understanding and enter haunted dimensions. Through the work in the exhibition, the artists connect fragmented family narratives shaped by war, migration, and generational trauma to broader global contexts, creating new narratives that transform their difficult origins. With these artists as guides, Spirit House invites you to commune with your ancestors, reflect on significant memories, and journey through time and space.

Sugar Hunger
Sugar Hunger is a poem by Thái Hà, inspired by Lien Truong’s cake paintings, “The Sweet Perfume of Leavened Earth” exploring the politicisation of sensory and belonging. Woven into the poem is a childhood memory of Hà's mother, recalling the sugar ration in Vietnam during the subsidy period pre-Đổi Mới. The poem introduced Lien Truong’s 2024 solo exhibition An Unbearable Lightness between Sky and Water at Galerie Quynh. Truong’s painting, “Black Sesame, Orange Blossom, Sourdough roll in Family Bowl,” based on a fragrant roll she made from the yeast on her hands, sent to her mother in her final days, will be published alongside Hà’s poem on diaCRITICS in late September.

Word of Mouth: Asian American Artists Sharing Recipes
The University of Arkansas Press, Edited by Laura Kina and Jave Yoshimoto
Word of Mouth: Asian American Artists Sharing Recipes is an artists’ cookbook featuring stories and artwork from twenty-three Asian American and Asian diaspora artists from across the United States. Each contribution is accompanied by an original illustration and enriched by the artist’s reflections on how their cuisine has been impacted by histories of war, migration, relocation, labor, or mixing. This unique collection celebrates how artists use food to nurture and sustain their diverse communities and artistic practices to build connections during times of isolation, grief, and loss.
